The easiest way to do Wilpattu properly. You check in to our own resort in Anuradhapura at 2:00 PM, and by 3:30 PM you're back out — either touring the free sacred sites of the ancient city, or climbing Mihintale for sunset. Dinner is waiting when you return.
The next morning our car collects you at the resort at 5:00 AM and drives the hour or so to Wilpattu, where your safari jeep is waiting at the park entrance for a full day inside the park. Breakfast and lunch are packed and eaten out on safari. You come back to a second night in the same room, then breakfast before you go — no second hotel to book and no transport to arrange, because we do the driving.

Day 1Check in to our Goalma resort at 2:00 PM and settle in. At 3:30 PM you head back out for your choice of an Anuradhapura city tour taking in the free sacred sites, or the Mihintale sunset climb. Dinner at the property on your return.

Full-day Wilpattu safari
Day 2Our car collects you at the resort at 5:00 AM and drives the hour or so to the park entrance near Nochchiyagama, where you transfer to your safari jeep — in time for the best light and the most wildlife movement of the day. Breakfast and lunch are packed and eaten out in the park. Back at the resort in the evening — dinner is not included tonight, so you're free to eat wherever you like.

- How much does a Wilpattu safari package with accommodation cost?
- US$250 for one guest, US$300 for two, US$450 for three and US$550 for four. That is the total price for the whole party, not a per-person rate, and it covers the accommodation, the full-day safari, all transport, the afternoon tour and the meals listed. For two guests sharing a double room it works out at US$150 each for the three days.
- How do you get from Anuradhapura to Wilpattu National Park?
- Wilpattu is about 30 km from Anuradhapura, roughly an hour by road. Our car collects you at the resort at 5:00 AM and drives you to the park entrance near Nochchiyagama, where you transfer to your safari jeep with an experienced local tracker. We never put more than six guests in one jeep, and we drive you back to the resort at the end of the day.
- What time does the full-day Wilpattu safari start and finish?
- The car leaves the resort at 5:00 AM so you reach the park for first light, which is when leopards, sloth bears and elephants move most. The safari runs through the day with breakfast and lunch eaten in the park, and you are back at the resort in the evening.
- When is the best time to visit Wilpattu National Park?
- Wilpattu is open all year. The dry season from February to October gives the best game viewing, because animals gather at the villu lakes and the tracks are easier, and February to May is usually the strongest window for leopard sightings. Wilpattu stays far quieter than Yala year-round, so you rarely share a sighting with a queue of jeeps.
- Are leopard sightings guaranteed?
- No, and we would not trust anyone who promised otherwise. Wilpattu is wild. It has one of the highest leopard densities in Sri Lanka and a full day in the park gives you far better odds than a half day, but sightings are never certain.
